Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach is now a musical for the whole family to enjoy! Featuring a wickedly tuneful score by the Tony Award-nominated team of Pasek and Paul (Dogfight and A Christmas Story the Musical) and a curiously quirky book by Timothy Allen McDonald (Roald Dahl's Willy WonkaThe Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley), critics rave: James and the Giant Peach is a "masterpeach!"

When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that results in a tremendous peach... and launches a journey of enormous proportions. Suddenly, James finds himself in the center of the gigantic peach, among human-sized insects with equally oversized personalities, but after it falls from the tree and rolls into the ocean, the group faces hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements. Thanks to James' quick wit and creative thinking, the residents learn to live and work together as a family. The dangerous voyage is a success, but the adventure takes a whole new twist once they land on the Empire State Building.

A delightfully offbeat adaptation of the classic Roald Dahl adventure, the creative possibilities with James and the Giant Peach are endless. Actors will love playing the outlandish characters and performing brand new material from one of Broadway's hottest duos.

A true showman! A caricature of Willy Wonka, a Circus Ring Master, and Doc Brown (Back to the Future) all rolled into one. Magic tricks or illusions are a great plus for the actor. The actor must be able to capture and interact with the audience. This role relies heavily on improvisation skills, modern day clowning, movement and agility, pantomime, and strong vocals.

Key character definitely the hero of the story. This role may be cast non-traditionally (boy or girl). Must have strong vocals. James is rather complex, has a strong back story and character arc.

Auntie Spiker & Auntie Sponge

Amazing character roles! Though they are the true nemesis for James, they are sisters and find they really do care for (depend on) one another. These roles demand comedic timing, strong chemistry, quick wit, quick contrasts of emotion and thought, and strong vocals especially in the belt range. Note: Theses roles will not necessarily be cast as the stereotypical drawings of Roald Dahl.

The Insects

Lady-bug, Grasshopper, Centipede, Spider, Earthworm: Very strong roles. Must be able to interact well together, some comedic timing, good movement, strong characterization, and strong vocals are key. They all have strong character arcs, deep back-stories, and must eventually come together to establish family and home. Note: A plus if Grasshopper plays the violin (but not necessary). This group may also include the Glow-worm as a bit part (non-speaking) but could be included in the insect vocal numbers. Some of these roles may be cast non-traditionally.

Includes other strong bit parts and places to shine. (i.e., the song ‘Money on that Tree’ with the Garden Club, Reporters, Agents, and, Lawyers.) Plump and Juicy will include puppeteers/kite flyers for the seagulls. Strong dance numbers/scenes include the Opening number- ‘Right Before Your Eyes’, ‘Shake it Up’, ‘A Getaway for Spiker and Sponge’, ‘Plump and Juicy’, just to name a few. Puppetry and Mask may also be strong conventions utilized throughout the show.
