Camps

During the summer, CYT Branches put on weeklong musical theater day camps for students ages 4-18. Camps are designed to be a fun and energetic immersion into the world of musical theater. Camps are jam-packed with games, activities, and interactive workshops that build performance skills, self-confidence, and teamwork. Typical camps include team competitions; rotations through drama, dance, and music workshops; and a concluding showcase for family and friends. Some Branches host overnight camps for older students. Through praise, worship, prayer, and daily devotions, CYT teen camps are particularly focused on spiritual growth.

CYT Summer Camps are all about fun, friendships, and theatrics. Camps are great yearly tradition for your child!  Themes vary from year to year and change depending on age group.

CYT Houston offers 3 different camp experiences:
  • Summer Day Camp - ages 5 - 14 years
  • Master camp - ages 13 - 18 years
  • Summer Stock - ages 8 - 18 years

Students are eligible to move up to a different camp as long as they will be turning the minimum age for that camp by August 31st of that year.

Please note: There is a $25 charge per camper if you need to cancel up to ONE MONTH before the start of camp. After that time, there will be no refunds. We can transfer a student to a different camp, if there is availability.

Counselors
Camp staff includes professional local artists, CYT Production Artistic Teams, and theater specialists. These counselors are high energy, experienced, and love working with kids! CYT aims to hire counselors who are great role models for our students. All CYT counselors have been background checked and adhere to our CYT Mission and Values.

Showcase
At the end of camp, students perform in a showcase that they have rehearsed for over the course of their fun-filled week. Parents get to come watch their kids perform the material they have learned in just a short week free of charge! Showcase is a celebration of the week’s work and gives kids a glimpse into the energy and excitement of being part of a full CYT production.

CYT summer camps have been some of my most memorable experiences. From Newsies to The Lion King to Master Camps there is always something new for a great time with friends. They have taught me how to work with people and learn quickly.

Summer Camps

CYT Summer Camp is a week-long musical theater camp offered during the summer months for students ages 5-14.

Camps are designed to create a hands-on theater experience, and are focused on building performance skills, self-confidence, and teamwork. Camp days are filled with Broadway themed musical theater workshops focusing on voice, dance and drama. Campers enjoy making new friends as they build self-confidence and vital performance skills that are useful in all areas of life. Worship, scripture memorization challenges, team-building time, wacky themed days, an action packed water day, and high-energy competitive games will also be incorporated, promising you the best experience of your summer!

To close out the week, campers will showcase what they've rehearsed at an exciting Friday afternoon performance for family and friends.

Participants do not need to have any previous experience.

Master Camps

Master camps are designed for students 13-18 who have some theater experience already and focus on teaching specific techniques and skills. We are expanding our Master Camp for the 2018 camp season to include a five day overnight camp at beautiful Trinity Pines Conference Center!

Summer Stock

CYT Summer Stock is a two week, Monday through Friday, camp/show experience with a production held on the second Friday evening and/or Saturday after the final camp day. Summer Stock hours are 9 AM to 3 PM. A full show will be performed at a local venue with costumes, sets and props! Parent help is not mandatory but welcome and necessary to put the show together. All students will be in the show.

Students will audition for roles.  They do NOT need to come with anything prepared, but they will be asked to audition on the first Monday.
