Description:

Based on the smash DreamWorks animated motion picture, Madagascar – A Musical Adventure JR. follows all of your favorite crack-a-lackin’ friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar.

Alex the lion is the king of the urban jungle, the main attraction at New York's Central Park Zoo. He and his best friends — Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo — have spent their whole lives in blissful captivity before an admiring public and with regular meals provided for them. Not content to leave well enough alone, Marty lets his curiosity get the better of him and makes his escape — with the help of some prodigious penguins — to explore the world.

Show Notes:

Director's Vision Statement
Anyone who has been around CYT Houston for more than a couple of years has heard the saying "Awkwardly Closer Than Family". There are t-shirts, bumper stickers, tote bags, and the kids will tell you all about it! In studying the script for our upcoming show, I immediately thought of our CYT Family in relation to the Madagascar Family. You've got Alex, the graduating senior who has done ALL the shows and gets everyone pumped up. Gloria, the choreo-queen who is just chilling out enjoying the journey. Marty, the jokester who loves to entertain everyone both on stage and off. Melman, the one who gets stage fright and is always looking for their costume pieces and props. The Lemurs, the incoming kids who are just excited to be here and are crazy full of en-ergy. And, let's not forget the Penguins, they would be the backstage ninja's, the crew.. the kids working backstage getting it done.

These beloved characters are some of my favorites created by DreamWorks. To be part of bringing this to the CYT stage is so exciting! The show is fast-paced and fun, bright and colorful! There is new music, and of course, we will all be 'Movin' it!" All ages are encouraged to audition, there is room for everyone! Bring your fun, lighthearted songs and comedic monologues.

Show Verse: A friend loves at all times. Proverbs 17:17
There are several qualities that can be found in true friends. Friends should be reliable, loyal, empathetic, confident, have a positive mindset, and most importantly, they love and accept you for who you are. As we go through this show journey, we will be learning how this crazy group of characters embody all of these characteristics! They will see each other through some scary and difficult times with love, understanding, and a HUGE dose of humor.

We are excited to welcome you all to audition for the cast of Madagascar as we set sail on our musical adventure together soon!
