Description:

Trolls JR. is based on the irreverent DreamWorks Animation movie franchise and features a colorful, wondrous world populated by hilariously unforgettable characters. The show follows the overly optimistic Trolls, constantly with a song on their lips, and the comically pessimistic Bergens, who are only happy when they have Trolls in their stomach.

The Troll thespians in Poppy’s company live by their motto: the show must go on. But when a tyrannical foreign emissary arrives in Bergenland, expectations are raised, forcing the Trolls to totally rework their show or risk being served up in the name of diplomacy by a Chef rehired and out for revenge.

Show Notes:

We ‘CAN’T STOP THE FEELING!’ as we get ready for Trolls Jr.! Come along with us as we reunite with familiar characters like Poppy, Branch, Bridget, King Gristle, Guy Diamond, and Chef in a brand new story with even catchier songs that are sure to get stuck in your head.

Trolls explores beautiful themes such as finding happiness within yourself rather than relying on external forces, embracing our differences, and the value of friendship.

Throughout the show we watch as the Trolls and Bergens repeatedly join together to sing and be happy, despite all adversity they had previously faced. We can reflect on a similar message by looking at our show verse, Psalm 95:1: “Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.” This verse encourages us to express our love and gratitude to God enthusiastically. It is an invitation, a passionate call to worship as a community and to recognize Him as our firm foundation. Just like in our show verse, the Trolls and the Bergens come together to make joyful noise and rejoice as a community.

Trolls Jr. is a show filled with all sorts of exciting elements: incredible dances, catchy music, and plenty of big, expressive characters to bring to life! There are tons exuberant Trolls, like Poppy, Branch, and Biggie, who love to sing and dance! As well as a variety of Bergens; some are allied with the Trolls, like King Gristle and Bridget, but some still cling to their evil ways like Chef. But this show has a great place for everyone, with lots of roles that sing and dance!

For auditions, the creative team asks that you prepare a contrasting monologue and song in the style of the show. Auditioners will have two minutes to shine and are welcome to use that time as they wish; maybe a shorter song and a longer monologue or vice versa! Above all else, we want to see YOU!

We’re looking for students of all ages who are eager to put on their dance pants, be creative and bold, and band together! It doesn’t matter if you’re a veteran of the stage or someone beginning to dip their toe into the theater pool, we encourage you to join us for the opportunity to help bring this show to life! It’s going to be the biggest, loudest, craziest party ever!

Characters:

Poppy

Queen of the Trolls, has a positive attitude and infectious can-do spirit. Poppy does it all: sings, dances, acts, directs, and writes, all while inspiring those around her.

Branch

King Gristle

The likeable young Bergen monarch, might lack ruling experience, but he makes up for it with his great friendship with all Trolls. King Gristle should have a great sense of comic timing and should pair well with Bridget.

Chef

A scheming, egomaniacal Bergen with a taste for Trolls

Bridget

She's a sweet and soft-spoken Bergen. Though she’s a bit naïve, Bridget is a true romantic and is willing to go the extra mile to help King Gristle.

Marie Bergenette

A spoiled princess from a powerful Bergen kingdom overseas. Cast a stellar actor and a strong singer who can command the stage with Marie’s larger- than-life personality. Marie could have a French accent, so long as the audience can clearly understand the actor onstage.

Biggie

A large, cuddly Troll who goes nowhere without his friend Mr. Dinkles, a sock puppet voiced by the actor playing Biggie.

Guy Diamond

A cheeky, glitter-covered Troll with a signature autotune voice

Cooper

A goofy Troll who loves parties and farts cupcakes.

Satin

Satin and Chenille are conjoined fashionista Troll twins.

DJ Suki

A hip and loyal team player who wears DJ cans (a.k.a. headphones).

Pyrotechnics Troll

A skilled technician (albeit accident-prone) who loves crafting show- stopping theatrical moments, especially when fire is involved.

Trilliam Trollspeare

The Troll version of William Shakespeare.

TMZ-style field reporters or streamers.

Advisor

A master of ambiguity, but only because they want to keep their job.

Royal Guard Chad

Royal Guard Chad and Royal Guard Todd are inseparable, supportive Royal Guards to King Gristle. They’re also gossipmongers and know the whole kingdom’s secrets.
