IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Welcome to Newsies!  If you have any questions about auditions, rehearsals, etc. please email mary@cythouston.org.

Please read through all the information on this page.  There are a lot of links with great information.  You can look at the calendar to see when auditions, rehearsals and shows will be.

Auditions - November 20 - Klein United Methodist Church
  1. When you sign up for a class, you can sign up for your vocal timeslot.  Auditioners have 2 minutes to shine.  You should have a song and a monologue prepared.  That can be 1 minute of each, 90 seconds of a song and a 30 second monologue.  It's up to you.
  2. ALL auditioners will attend dance auditions from approximately 6:00 - 7:00pm. Those that want to be considered for tap dancing will stay once the regular dance audition is completed and attend a tap specific dance audition until 7:30pm.  Please bring tap shoes, if you have them.  If you don't, please do not go buy them just for these auditions.  To be considered for Katherine, you must attend the tap portion.
  3. Things to bring to auditions:
    1. Headshot 4x6 or 5x7 with name, age, and height written on the back.
    2. Check or credit card to pay for production fees, which are due at check in along with the completed production fee form found here.  There is an additional charge if using a credit card.
    3. Costume form that is also part of the document linked above.  Please fill out name and general size information.  Measurements will be completed by costume committee, either at auditions or first rehearsals.
    4. Music (karaoke track preferred) on a smartphone, ipad, etc. that we can connect to our speaker with an aux cable.
    5. Refillable water bottle.  You'll need it during dance auditions!
    6. You may want to bring something to change into for dance after you complete your vocal audition, or, if you are doing your vocal audition after dance auditions, something to change into from your dance audition outfit.
    7. You may be asked to do special skills during dance, so please wear leotards or something under your shirt so that you remain modest, even if doing a flip, walkover, etc.  Leggings can be worn under shorts.
    8. Smiles and patience!
Callbacks - November 21 - Klein United Methodist Church
  1. We will have dance callbacks, most likely in the morning.
  2. Character callbacks will begin once dance is completed.

Selling the Shows

The majority of patrons purchase tickets because they know someone in the show. Personally inviting people, sharing on social media, etc. are how we fill the seats for the cast. Please note: The Family Box Office will automatically turn off around 2 weeks before opening night, so if you are going to open it, don't wait. It's easy to forget and then it's too late.

Theater Move In and Beyond!!!!!

We need as many people as possible to help with move in day. This is the day that costumes, sets, props, mics, and hair/makeup all move in and get set up. Even if your committee is a front of the house committee, you are welcome to come on this day and help get those backstage committees ready to go. Teenagers in the show are also welcome and encouraged to come help that day.
