Welcome to Christian Youth Theater

Christian Youth Theater (CYT) is an after-school theater arts training program for students ages 4-18. Since its founding in 1980, CYT has grown to be the largest youth theater program in the nation, with Branches across the country training thousands of students a year.

Each Branch’s yearly calendar is made up of three ten-week sessions: Fall, Winter, and Spring. These session involves after-school classes in theater arts and the opportunity to audition and perform in a Broadway-style musical or work behind-the-scenes. Additionally, CYT offers a Summer session consisting of camps, workshops, and performance opportunities.

CYT stands in the forefront in its commitment to the highest ethical, moral, technical, and artistic standards of excellence. Instructors are professionals, qualified in teaching and/or performing, who understand our mission statement, values, objectives, and goals.

CYT has so much talent! I am always blown away at the talent that CYT kids have. The vocals of the show were outstanding. I truly know if it weren't for CYT, Levi wouldn't have been on Broadway. And beyond all the brilliance you are gifted with family, love and support for the entire cast! CYT will forever be in my heart.

Something For Everyone

CYT offers classes for students ages 4-18 throughout the school year. Classes include drama, voice, dance, and behind-the-scenes training in makeup, costumes, tech, and more. Classes are held for two hours once a week and run for ten consecutive weeks in Fall, Winter, and Spring sessions. Class sizes are small and offer supervision both inside and outside the classroom. Each session culminates in a high-energy showcase to demonstrate to family, friends, and fellow students the skills acquired.

All The World’s a Stage

CYT shows are always appropriate for the entire family and are an excellent way to introduce children to the arts at a young age!

Enrollment in CYT classes provides students ages 8-18 the opportunity to audition for the current production. CYT Chapters produce one Broadway-style musical each session (Fall, Winter, and Spring). Students who want to be part of the show without performing can participate on the backstage crew, technical team, or as an usher.

I could go on and on about the life skills I learned through this organization like public speaking, a confidence in myself, a love of community service and so much more. I'm forever thankful.

What Are Your Summer Plans?

During the summer, CYT Branches put on week-long musical theater day camps for students ages 4-18. Camps are designed to be a fun and energetic immersion into the world of musical theater. Camps are jam-packed with games, activities, and interactive workshops that build performance skills, self-confidence, and teamwork. Typical camps include team competitions; rotations through drama, dance, and music workshops; and a concluding showcase for family and friends. Some Branches host overnight camps for older students. Through praise, worship, prayer, and daily devotions, CYT teen camps are particularly focused on spiritual growth.

CYT Summer Camps are all about fun, friendships, and theatrics. Camps are great yearly tradition for your child!

Other Ways To Get Involved!

There are many ways to be part of CYT beyond the stage! CYT programs consist of everything that is not a class, camp, or show. Some of the available programs include CYT@school, HYPE, Improvathon, and the yearly CYT EXPO.

Contribute To CYT!

CYT is a non-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization funded primarily through its tuition, ticket sales, and outside contributions. We rely on your donations to provide the necessary tools and materials to deliver top-notch programming at an affordable rate!

Current Staff Members:

Jeannie Bailey

My family began attending CYT shows in 2007 and has been involved with the organization since 2012. I started coordinating shows in 2015 and I'm blessed to work with so many wonderful friends! God has given me a love for planning and organization and I am always grateful when He miraculously brings everything together! My heart is full every time a cast sings praise and worship before every show and gives credit to God as the curtain falls. With classes and shows, CYT truly is "developing character...one stage at a time".

Robyn Flanery

CHAPTER COORDINATOR - EAST
Thankfully, my family and I heard about CYT through a friend, and my son was in his first show in 2011. Thus began our journey with CYT Houston. I am Chapter Coordinator for the East branch and I have had the privilege to class coordinate and show coordinate for 6 years. Being part of the CYT community is a blessing and I am thankful for the opportunity. I consider it a gift to be able to spend my time with so many wonderful people. I love having a front row seat in watching the students grow in character and in talent. It is quite amazing! 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Crystal St James

SHOW COORDINATOR
Crystal is a native Texan and Houstonian who loves Jesus, her husband, 3 handsome sons and 2 mischievous dogs. Serving alongside her local church family and community of friends that are like family with Christian Youth Theater Houston are some of the great joys of her heart. She counts it as an honor and privilege each time an offer to coordinate a show for CYT Houston is extended. Crystal is an active member of Bible Study Fellowship International, enjoys reading historical fiction novels, cooking and holds Matthew 6:33 close to her heart.

Stacey Brednich

SHOW COORDINATOR
Hello! My name is Stacey Brednich and although I am originally from Alabama, I am happy to call Texas my home. I have two degrees in education and spent around 15 years teaching in a mix of public and private schools. I even had the honor of teaching a year in Uganda. I am currently homeschooling my two daughters, Marin and Hollis, and love every minute of it. Many years ago, I had the pleasure of being an assistant director for a few middle school productions like James and Giant Peach and Jungle Book. Theater is a true joy and I am so excited to give your little ones a glimpse into the stage!

Dawn Leal

CLASS COORDINATOR
In the Fall of 2010, as a new home school mom, I found what has become a second family for our children. It has been a blessing to watch our kids use their gifts on and off the stage, while growing in a Godly community. I have been a class coordinator for CYT Houston for a few years and it has been such a joy to watch students blossom from little Our Gang kids to amazing performers in our advanced classes. My other passion outside of my family is being a youth minister. I have been blessed to lead mission weeks for teens, along with my family, for the last 20 years. "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16

Jamie Hawley

CAMP COORDINATOR
Jamie Hawley and her family have been involved with CYT Houston since 2014. She has been both a member and the chair of the costume committees for shows like Mary Poppins, Anything Goes, and Shrek Jr.
Prior to becoming a CYT staff member, Jamie spent years serving as Events Coordinator and Core Staff member for several programs with the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council.
While both of her children have aged out, Jamie enjoys continuing to work for CYT Houston as camp coordinator.

Dee Willis

SCHOOL LIAISON
I have been a part of CYT since 2010 when my daughter joined this wonderful organization. She is now all grown up with kids of her own and I'm so happy to still be with CYT! I have a Bachelor's Degree in Music in Therapy from Sam Houston State University and I LOVE to sing! During the past 9 years I have been honored to serve at CYT in the capacity of Costumer, Teacher, Director, Vocal Director, Tour Group Director, Show Coordinator, and CYT@school Coordinator. I'm so blessed that God has given me the opportunity to work with so many talented individuals and to share His love with others through CYT!

Diana Horn

COSTUMER
Diana has been sewing since she was 4 years old. She has garnered numerous associates degrees from Houston Community College in Costuming and Design. She has been volunteering with CYT Houston since 2010-2011 season, and was then offered a staff position in January of 2014. She is married to the HYPE Advisor David Horn, and their son, Lucius, loves attending all the CYT shows and camps! She is very blessed to have this position and loves what she does.
