Description:

Join the Blue Fairy, Stromboli and a lively cast of characters, as Geppetto journeys beyond the toy shop to discover the meaning of family. When the Blue Fairy grants Geppetto's wish to bring his beloved puppet to life, the new father quickly learns that being a parent is full of challenges. He struggles to make his son "the perfect boy," only to lose him to a gang of Roustabouts. It is only when faced with the thought of never seeing Pinocchio again that Geppetto truly learns the joys of being a father and loving one's child unconditionally.

My Son Pinocchio's Director Vision Letter

Welcome to our production of My Son Pinocchio!! We are so excited to get started with the creation of this joyful show. I promise there is so much prayer that has gone into this show already, so I cannot wait to see what God has in store for us!
My Son Pinocchio is full of some super fun opportunities; this is a show with several high energy dance numbers, songs that are bound to get stuck in your head, and a wide variety of roles to suit a wide variety of performers! From children in a toy shop to a sweet, old toymaker, this show has plenty of roles for all ages and personalities. No matter the experience level, we would love to have you join us in creating this beautiful, classic story!
From the very beginning of the story of Pinocchio, the Blue Fairy makes a promise: when Pinocchio is brave, truthful, and unselfish, he will be made into a real boy. These words remind me of 1 Corinthians 13:4-6, which says:
“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with truth.”
Throughout his journey, Pinocchio is learning what it means to be brave, truthful, and unselfish. He starts his story by not seeing eye to eye with his father, Gepetto. While Gepetto thinks of Pinocchio, a puppet who should be exactly who Gepetto wants him to be, Pinocchio already feels like a real boy. Pinocchio is silly and makes mistakes, but he loves his dad wholeheartedly. After a series of silly encounters with some perfect children and a whale, Gepetto realizes that he was the one who made a mistake by wanting Pinocchio to be anyone but himself. Ultimately, Gepetto and Pinocchio both offer to sacrifice their dreams to save each other, which is when the Blue Fairy finally makes Pinocchio into a real boy.
When thinking about the words brave, truthful, and unselfish, they fit right into scripture’s definition of what true, Christlike love looks like. Love does not insist on its own way, and it rejoices with truth! The story of Gepetto and Pinocchio is ultimately a story of learning how to love unconditionally, the way Christ loves us. Even when in the belly of a whale (Pinocchio and Jonah have something in common), God’s love shines through.
As we start this show process together, my prayer is that we keep this verse close to our hearts. My favorite thing about my CYT family has always been our unconditional Christlike love for one another! God has a special place and purpose for each of us in this show!! I just can’t wait!!
With joy,
Maddie Yardley (your director!!)
