Description

Reimagining Stories with Pop Hits: Exploring Jukebox Musicals Through & Juliet
& Juliet is a jukebox musical that takes us through a clever and modern “what if” scenario to the classic ‘Romeo and Juliet’.  We start our story with William Shakespeare and his wife Anne Hathaway debating how ‘Romeo and Juliet’ should end. Anne argues that Juliet deserves a second chance, and they co-write a new narrative together.
This jukebox musical, composed and written by Grammy award winning producer Max Martin along with Emmy award winning writer David West Read, blends comedy, empowerment, and contemporary pop hits to spin classic literature in a fresh way.  The story is told through 30 hit songs from Grammy award winning producer Max Martin- including “Larger Than Life”, “I Want It That Way”, “That’s The Way It Is”, and “Since You Been Gone”, to name a few.
In addition to the preparation of our & Juliet Medley for showcase we will study the characters of our story, the background of the classic story of Romeo and Juliet, touch on “Who is Willam Shakespeare”, discuss “What is a jukebox musical”, “Who are Max Martin and David West Read”, and take a trip through turn of the millennium pop history in efforts to study and understand the background of the show; in addition to elements of music theory and comprehension, note precision, breath control, and text clarity.

We are sure to grow in our craft and I look forward to a fun session together!
