Description

Take your performance to the next level by mastering the art of storytelling through dance. Designed for experienced dancers, Theatrical Dance combines contemporary dance technique with the emotional depth and stage presence of musical theater to create captivating performances that move audiences.
Dancers will refine technical skills including strength, control, flexibility, balance, turns, floor work, and dynamic movement while exploring advanced choreography and artistic expression. Emphasis will be placed on musicality, character development, emotional connection, and using movement to communicate a story with authenticity and confidence. Students will be challenged to push beyond technique, discovering how to make every movement purposeful and every performance unforgettable. Whether preparing for the stage or simply looking to grow as a versatile performer, this class will inspire dancers to perform with passion, precision, and heart.
Prerequisite: Must have completed 2 classes in Dance Foundations **Please do not sign up for this class unless you have met the prerequisite (show participation does not cover these prerequisites)

Melody Johnson

Melody has been dancing for 25 years. She is classically trained in ballet, modern, contemporary, and jazz with Excelsior School of Dance and Performing Arts (Sonshine Curriculum, ABT Curriculum). She has also received training in ballroom, hip hop, acrobatics, fosse, tap, acting, and stage combat. Melody has worked as a professional freelance choreographer for 15 years, partnering with many theater and film companies around the Spring/Houston area. In 2010 Melody founded her professional dance company, ReFine Arts Productions. Since then, she has produced several original productions in the Conroe, Spring, and Houston areas. Melody's original choreography has been seen in many shows and festivals, including RAW Artists, and the Houston Fringe Festival. Melody has won multiple awards for her choreography, including the Broadway World Regional award for Best Choreographer in Houston. Her shows have been included in the top five things to see in Houston by Houston Press.
