CCT Wizard of Oz Director Vision Letter!

Come be part of CYT HOUSTON’s 150th Show!!!

Who’s ready to get swept away to an Oz full of fabulous “Gatsby-esque” flair?!? We’re giving Oz a spin that’s fresh off the vaudeville stage! Our 1920’s inspired Wizard of Oz production will be bright and colorful, full of flappers, newsies, glam styles and classic 20’s dances! In CYT Houston’s 150th SHOW, we have the incredible opportunity to both celebrate the nostalgia of Judy Garland’s iconic “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and reimagine this timeless story with new energy and imagination!

There’s a moment at the beginning of The Wizard of Oz when Dorothy looks out at her monochromatic world and feels a sense there has to be more. It’s a feeling so many of us recognize. A longing. A wondering. A quiet question about who we are and where we belong.

As we begin this journey together, we will anchor our hearts in this truth from 2 Timothy 1:7: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

Dorothy sets out believing she needs to find something outside of herself—answers, belonging, home. Along the way, she meets friends who believe they are lacking something essential: a brain, a heart, and courage. But what we discover, piece by piece, is that they already possess exactly what they need.
This story is not just about a journey to somewhere else—it’s about discovering what has been placed within you all along. God has given each of us what we need to be equipped for our journey with Him through life and ultimately, we find that “there’s no place like Home” with God!

As you are preparing to spend the summer immersed in the Merry ‘Ol Land of Oz, we pray that you KNOW in your heart that God has given you not a spirit of fear, but of power (to step out and bravely make choices that show us all of your personality and character), of love (for each other…friends we already know and new friends we can get to know during our time together this summer), and of a sound mind (to grow, learn, and be challenged in a super FUN and safe environment!)

I invite you to take your first step down the Yellow Brick Road at auditions with confidence! Give us the best glimpse of your personality in your auditions…energy and expressiveness in your song, bold character choices in your monologue, and sharp dance moves! We need people of all ages….strong dancers, singers, and character actors!

The team is ALL rooting for each one of you and excited to see what you bring to the table to help bring all the Vaudevillian-Munchkins, Swing-Dancing-Jitterbugs, Hobo-Crows, Dolled-Up-Apple-Trees, Newsie-Flying-Monkeys, Socialite-Flapper-Ozians, and Gangster-Winkies to life! I have no doubt that the creative genius of Brandon and Maddie, the fabulous dance vision of Mieka, and the imaginative contributions of our interns, Ziggy and Lexie, will combine with all of your giftings to make this summer the most FUN and UPLIFTING summer you can imagine.

Get signed up today! It’s sure to be the bee’s knees!!

Selling the Shows

The majority of patrons purchase tickets because they know someone in the show. Personally inviting people, sharing on social media, etc. are how we fill the seats for the cast. Please note: The Family Box Office will automatically turn off around 2 weeks before opening night, so if you are going to open it, don't wait. It's easy to forget and then it's too late.

Teenagers in the show are also welcome and encouraged to come help that day.
