Description:

In the kooky, upside-down world of the Addams Family, to be sad is to be happy, to feel pain is to feel joy, and death and suffering are the stuff of their dreams. The Addamses have lived by their unique values for hundreds of years and the Addams clan would be happy to continue living that way. Their dark, beloved daughter Wednesday, however, is now an eighteen year-old young woman who is ready for a life of her own. She has fallen in love with Lucas Beineke, a sweet, smart boy from a normal, respectable Ohio family — the most un-Addams sounding person one could be! And to make matters worse, she has invited the Beinekes to their home for dinner. In one fateful, hilarious night, secrets are disclosed, relationships are tested, and the Addams family must face up to the one horrible thing they’ve managed to avoid for generations: change. Featuring all your favorite Addams Family Characters as well as whole host of hilarious Addams Family ancestors, and a score by award-winning Andrew Lippa with hits like “Pulled,” “Crazier Than You,” and “One Normal Night,” this wonderful musical rendition of the beloved story will spook and delight audiences all year long.

CYT HOUSTON’S ADDAMS FAMILY SCHOOL EDITION
DIRECTOR’S VISION STATEMENT

We can’t wait to bring this wacky, laugh-a-minute, and heartwarming musical to life!

Every single character in the cast will be comedic in nature and high energy.

This show will be jam-packed with advanced choreography from the original Broadway and London touring versions.

“Addams Family School Edition” is designed for a cast of students who appear in age, or demonstrate skills and behavior of, characters ages 12 and up. The majority of the characters in this show are older and the plot lines deal with adult topics such as marriage, child-rearing, falling in love, and opposing their own family’s values, which may not provide suitable roles for a younger ensemble.

Due to the limitations of the stage space, somewhat grown up content, and the age of appearance suggested for the characters in “Addams Family School Edition”, there is a possibility of cuts.  While there are no age restrictions on auditions, the artistic team will be considering these elements during the casting process. Please see the character descriptions for suggested skills and age appearance to portray each role.

As you prepare for your audition, remember that this is your time to showcase your talents. Your audition helps us know where to best place you and which roles to call you back for. Typically, directors ask for a 45-60 second song and a 45-60 second monologue. For “Addams Family School Edition”, the directing team is offering the option performing two 45-60 second song cuts in contrasting styles or characters.

We look forward to seeing you at Addams Family School Edition auditions!

-Christine Tonkin, Director
