Class Description

This course is designed to help students develop an appreciation for sketch comedy as well as the art of writing sketch comedy. Students will have fun working with their own team of writers to create fun sketches for Showcase! Upon completion of this course, students will have practice in the following areas:
  • Developing characters and storylines
  • Editing sketches and learning different forms of layout
  • Learning different methods of overcoming writers block
  • Working with other students on a “writing team” to develop teamwork skills
  • Determining which sketches can be performed in front of a live audience and which ones are better suited for video editing; and what is involved in both circumstances
  • Understanding seven different comedy sketch formats
  • Incorporating the various aspects of comedy sketch writing into their own sketches that they will write and perform for showcase

Please contact Jeannie Bailey at for questions concerning Monday night classes.

Sarah Steindl

Sarah has been acting since she knew how to play pretend and began writing her own plays and putting them on with her friends when she was six. Fast forward 15 years to when she graduated from Texas Tech University with a BA in Creative Writing and a minor in Theatre Arts. She currently serves as a teaching assistant with the A.D. Players Performing Arts Academy, and her favorite role to date is the goofy, adorable Annelle Dupuy-DeSoto in "Steel Magnolias." She is so pumped to begin this new journey with CYT and can't wait to meet everyone's smiling faces!
