Class Description

NEW PERFORMANCE-BASED CLASS! Be a part of CYT Houston's first Play Festival!!!

We will audition and rehearse our play during classes until Nov. 9th (a couple of weeks more than the traditional classes), then perform our play at our ticketed CYT Houston Play Festival on the evening of NOVEMBER 14th.  The Festival will be the culminating performance for all of our Project Play classes and a wonderful chance to celebrate the Straight Play genre of theater together.  Registration in this class also includes 2 tickets to the play festival.

"The Monsters Under the Bed" By Fr. Dominic Garramone and the St Bede Theatre Troupe
Stephanie's having a sleep-over with her friends when they are joined by her young cousin Melissa who can't get to sleep because she's afraid of the dark. But soon the monsters come out from under the bed and no one can get to sleep. As each girl describes her own personal fear, those fears come to life as Crumplebump (the funny noises monster), The Final Freak (the math test monster), Big Bad Boom (the thunderstorm monster), and several other terrifying creatures of the night. The girls help each other overcome their fears, and with some help from Stephanie's older sister Cathy and her monster friend Gruntable, the other monsters are banished. Conceived and written by a group of grade school and high school students, this play is sure to appeal to anyone who's ever been afraid to get out of bed in the middle of the night.

To participate in this class you must be committed to participating in the live performance on NOVEMBER 14, 2020.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to COVID-19 our dates, venue and class format may be forced to change.

Teacher:

Katy Evans

In a world that is trying to put fear first, Katy is ready for a class of creative students to present a one act play all about banishing fears and celebrating friendships and trust! Seven years ago, Katy Evans founded the FOIL Theatre Arts program and enjoyed the process of introducing musicals, one acts, and full length plays to the middle and high school students at Legacy. Two years ago, she was invited to help kick start another theatre arts program called Christ Church Community Theatre to provide more opportunities for older students and adults to act in The Woodlands area. Katy loves to be involved with new theatre programs, especially Christian programs, and the Play Project CYT is introducing this year will be exciting and fun.
