Description

When the Sound of Music opened in 1959, it won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. For millions of people around the world, this show is the quintessential combination of a powerful and moving story, beautiful and memorable music, and fascinating characters brought to life. The musical tells the story of Maria and the large family she becomes governess to while she decides whether to become a nun.

In this Musical Theater class, we will study the Sound of Music to grow deeper in our understanding of the art of the stage. We will explore storytelling elements, choreography choices, vocal interpretations, and characterization. Classes will include warm-ups, solo and group singing, scene work, dancing, theater games, researching the show, and a final showcase performance.
Prerequisite: ***** You MUST have already taken AT LEAST 2 of the following classes in different disciplines: dance, drama, and vocals *****  Please do not register for this class if you have not met these prerequisite requirements.

Ashlie Driver

I hold two choral music degrees (UT Austin, UH Moores School of Music) and I love my jobs as Executive Director of CYT and Church Music Director. I have been involved as a CYT parent, director and teacher since the fall of 2013. My husband Steve, and children; Maddie, Travis, and Elise, feel incredibly blessed to have found CYT and become so involved...it is our second faith-family! I pray that everyone who becomes part of CYT will experience the joy and love that we have encountered here. To God be the Glory!
