Class Description

PERFORMANCE-BASED CLASS! Be a part of CYT Houston's Play Festival!!!

We will audition and rehearse our play during classes, then perform our play at our ticketed CYT Houston Play Festival on the evening of FEBRUARY 21, 2021.  The Festival will be the culminating performance for all of our Project Play classes and a wonderful chance to celebrate different genres of theater together.  Registration in this class also includes 2 tickets to the play festival.

Dramatic Classic: The Long Christmas Dinner by Thornton Wilder
The Long Christmas Dinner showcases the lives of several generations of the Bayard family, over the course of nine decades, and some of their Christmas dinners. Written by American novelist and playwright Thornton Wilder (Our Town) in 1931, he breaks the boundaries of time as we measure it, and invites us to partake of “one long, happy Christmas dinner”-past, present, and future. As generations appear, have children, wither and depart, only the audience appreciates what changes and what remains the same. Actors must stretch their skills to show characters aging and progressing through life over the course of the one-act play.

Please be aware that the final class meeting will be on Thursday, February 18 instead of Tuesday (Showcase Night) at Klein United Methodist Church so the students can have the opportunity to practice on the stage before the Festival.

To participate in this class you must be committed to participating in the live performance on FEBRUARY 21, 2021.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to COVID-19 our dates, venue and class format may be forced to change.

Dee Willis

I have been a part of CYT since 2010 when my daughter joined this wonderful organization. She is now all grown up with kids of her own and I'm so happy to still be with CYT! I have a Bachelor's Degree in Music in Therapy from Sam Houston State University and I LOVE to sing! During the past 10 years I have been honored to serve at CYT in the capacity of Costumer, Teacher, Director, Vocal Director, Tour Group Director, Show Coordinator, and CYT@school Coordinator. I'm so blessed that God has given me the opportunity to work with so many talented individuals and to share His love with others through CYT!

Location Notes:

Through a generous gift of space from our community partner, Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital, we have been blessed with beautiful, updated classroom space in a removed wing of the hospital with a separate entrance from the main building. We are so thankful for this gift that allows us to be able to continue offering programming in our CYT Houston East area!
