Description

Life has changed a lot over the past 100 years, and dancing in theatre is no exception. In this class, we will study not just the styles of dance and how they have changed but also world events that may have influenced the changes that we see today. We will start with a little vaudevillian style of the early 1920s, progress to the swing and jazz era and the Golden Age of Broadway, and then end with the more modern style of musical theatre dancing with an emphasis
on lyrical.

This will be a very fast-paced class! Students will be expected to practice at home each week and do weekly homework that will mostly consist of viewing different musicals that are readily available or familiarizing themselves with poignant moments in history. The result will be a beautiful representation of the evolution of dance on Broadway through the years. Jazz shoes or character heels are required for all dancers.
