Description

Auditions for Wizard of Oz will be held on Friday, February 24th.  The location will be at Spring First Church, located at 1851 Spring Cypress Rd. Spring, TX 77388.

Audition timeslots are as follows:
Slot A - 3:30 - 4:00
Slot B - 4:00 - 4:30
Slot C - 4:30 - 5:00
Slot D - 5:15 - 5:45 FULL!  NO MORE SPOTS FOR THIS TIMESLOT
Slot E - 5:45 - 6:15
Slot F - 6:15 - 6:45

We will open Slot G - 6:45 - 7:15 if all other slots fill up or if there is someone who absolutely cannot make it any earlier.

Auditioners will all be required to perform a 1 minute song, preferably with no vocals on it.  If there are vocals on the track, we will have to turn it down so that the artistic team can hear the auditioner over the person singing. You can search iTunes for karaoke versions of many songs.  Students may also choose to perform a 1-minute monologue to show their acting skills.  This is completely voluntary. Monologues should be memorized and will be performed just before or after their song.

Students should arrive for their audition with their paperwork completely filled out.  We may have a few copies there, but there is no guarantee and depending on location, we may not have any way of making additional copies.

Click on the shows link on this website and in the top box, you will see Audition Forms to print.  Print the first 4 pages and complete and sign all of them.  They must bring these forms along with two wallet sized headshots, one being paperclipped to the audition form, and the other being stapled to the costume form.

Email Mary Ramsower at mary@cythouston.org with your timeslot choice.  There are only 10 slots available per 30 minutes due to the possibility of students doing monologues as well as their songs.

On Saturday, February 25th, we will be holding dance auditions from 9:00-11:30am.  Everyone who auditions on Friday night must attend the dance audition on Saturday morning.  We will have a few callbacks that morning during the dance auditions and then we will begin callbacks for characters at 1:00pm and be finished by 4:00pm or so.

A couple of audition tips:
Don't:
- Tell the judging panel about your most recent health malady
- use music from the musical you are auditioning for in your audition

Do:
- use a performance trak/karaoke trak, (i.e. without voices) or an accompanist. Don't use a demo, (with voices), trak. You may be asked to stop singing, and sing without the trak if the judges determine that the voices leave you with an advantage or disadvantage.

We will hand out scripts and do audition feedback sessions at the CYT office on February 26th.

You must be enrolled in a spring session class.  Registration is open now.

The location for rehearsals will be announced soon.

PARENT COMMITMENTS:
CYT would not be able to do what we do without parent involvement. Making this a family activity is part of what makes CYT so special. When a parent signs the audition form for their student, they are committing to several things, themselves.

1. Production Fee - By allowing your student to audition, you understand that you must pay a production fee of $125.00 and that it is due no later than the second rehearsal weekend if your student is cast in the show. This fee includes a show t-shirt and a meal between shows whenever we have two shows in the same day. Students who arrive at rehearsal that second weekend who have not paid their production fees will not be allowed into the rehearsal room. We will contact you and you can either come back up with the fee or you may pick up your student and they will receive an unexcused absence. Students receiving unexcused absences may have to be pulled from scenes they miss.

2. Mandatory Parent Meetings - Each parent volunteer must attend two parent meetings. This is crucial to the production and the success of the committees. This is when each parent will find out which committee they have been assigned for the pre-show and show week committees. At the end of the meeting, the committees will have time to gather and start getting the committee rolling. From that first night to the first night of tech week, it will go much faster than you can imagine, so we have to begin immediately.

3. Committees - As stated, a parent must serve on a pre-show committee, which begins the first night of rehearsal and a show-week committee which begins on the first day of Tech Week. Parents must complete a form on their committee preferences and the child will turn that sheet in with their audition form and costume form, on the day of auditions. If a committee sheet is NOT received, then the show coordinator will have to assign you to whichever committee needs additional help, so completing that form and making sure it is turned in will give you a better chance at choosing what you will be doing. Parents working the show week committees will work with their committee chair and together, the committee will determine who is taking off which show to sit and watch it. You are expected to be working on your committee for all shows except for the one you are watching. It is extremely important to make sure that multiple committee members don't take off the same show, and leave that committee short for that show. Each committee chair also MUST take one show off to sit and enjoy the work the students and parents have put into it.

4. Callboard and Time Keeping - And finally, by allowing your student to audition, you are committing to check to callboard regularly so that you know when your student is called for rehearsal and to get them there on time. It is very difficult to learn and run scenes when cast members arrive late.

For those who will be participating in a show for the first time, you will be amazed at what the parents and the students can accomplish in about 9-10 weeks. Even after 6 shows, I still find it incredible to watch these children and how they pick up the songs, dances and lines so quickly! You'll hear it again later, but if you are joining a production for the first time, welcome to the family. We are thrilled to have you with us!

REHEARSALS:

All conflicts MUST be noted on audition form. Absences will not be excused unless noted on the form. Students who receive an unexcused absence will most likely not be in the scenes that were worked on that day due to time contraints.

The First Mandatory Parent Meeting will be Friday, March 2, from 7:00-9:00pm.

TECH WEEK (April 23-26th from 5:00-9:00pm or possibly 6:00-10:00pm depending on the construction at McCullough) - Tech Week (dress rehearsals) are held at Nancy Bock Auditorium (McCullough Jr. High) in the Woodlands. This is where the productions will be performed. It is imperative that all students are present in order to get their spacing down as well as giving the technical people a chance to work with sound and lights, exactly the way it will be once there is an audience. Any students with a conflict need to make a notation of that on their audition form and understand that conflicts during tech week may affect the role the student is cast in.

Please call Mary Ramsower at 281-353-1174 if you have any questions. You can also email her at mary@cythouston.org.
